Abstract
Social status describes an individual's position in a social hierarchy. High status brings benefits as well as costs due to expectations of reciprocity. We constructed a survey to measure these effects. As predicted, relative status was robustly correlated with all specific costs and benefit dimensions, which in turn strongly inter-correlated.
