Mothers’ and Fathers’ Non-Supportive Reactions and Children’s Responses to Marital Conflict

Eighteen kindergarten-aged children and their parents participated in this study. Parents reported their responses to children’s negative affect and children reported their responses to interparental conflict. Parents’ non-supportive strategies were linked to children’s avoidance, and mothers’ non-supportive responses were linked with children’s active coping and support-seeking strategies.
