Abstract

This study examined the statistical mediation among controlling mothers, characterological shame, and alexithymia, hypothesizing that controlling parenting is significantly associated with alexithymia via characterological shame. 122 female students completed questionnaires on parental bonding, shame, and alexithymia. Results from a bootstrapped mediational regression analysis supported the hypothesis (Beta weight = .16).
