Abstract

This study aimed to identify the nuances of competence perceptions in first impressions and in predicting others’ career success. Findings indicate that first impressions of competence differentiate between others’ cognitive abilities and personality traits and that these perceptions can independently predict career success (e.g., success of film directors).
