Abstract

Cognitive reappraisal is an effective yet insufficiently used emotion regulation strategy (Suri et al., 2015). Based on Cognitive Energetics Theory (Kruglanski et al., 2012) we hypothesized that people underuse reappraisal strategy because of the anticipated difficulty of its implementation. Three lab studies using varied experimental methods supported this hypothesis.
