Abstract

We examined memory self-perceptions of bilingual individuals in a paired-associate recognition task including pairs of Spanish words, English words and pictures. We found that participants most accurately evaluated their memory in their second language, suggesting that bilingual individuals more closely monitor their cognition when thinking outside of their native language.
