Abstract

Two hundred twenty-eight native English speakers matched thirty-one emojis (across three electronic platforms: Apple, Samsung, Android) to ten discrete emotion words via an online survey. Emoji-emotion agreement was examined. Participants (regardless of platform) consistently paired an emoji (despite platform renderings which differed dramatically) to anger, fear, surprise, and love.
