Abstract

This study explored whether performance on an emotion recognition task was influenced by feelings of competency, opportunity for choice, and congruent feedback on an initial face memory test. Feedback congruent with perceived ability influences ability to recognize emotional expressions only when participants are given an opportunity to choose response format.
