Gendered Perceptions of the Social Value of Competitiveness

Abstract
Previous research suggests women’s professional advancement may be limited by a tendency to avoid competition with men. In order to clarify whether women’s perceptions of competitive targets may explain this avoidance pattern, we conducted four studies using Jellison and Green (1981)’s judge paradigm.
