Abstract
Attitudes towards nationality and gender stereotypes were investigated during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Overall, participants identified implicitly and explicitly as American; surprisingly, despite contrasting explicit attitudes, they implicitly associated women with leadership. Trump supporters reported higher and more stable levels of national identity and explicit sexism than Clinton supporters.
