Abstract

This study examined negative self-schema as a mechanism through which forms of childhood maltreatment influence the later experience of internalizing symptoms. Specifically, results show that a negative self-schema mediates the relationship between emotional abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect, and symptoms of both depression and anxiety across the university transition.
