I (Don't) Love My Body: Counter-Intuitive Effects of Body-Affirming Statements on College Women

College women were randomly assigned to periodically think either “I love my body” (affirming condition) or a neutral statement (control) during a five-minute writing task. Those in the affirmation condition reported lower body satisfaction and their writing showed evidence of counterarguing the affirming message by denigrating their appearance.
