Retrieval-Induced Forgetting in Social Contexts: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract
We compared “Within-individual Retrieval-induced Forgetting” (WI-RIF) with “Socially-shared Retrieval-induced Forgetting” (SS-RIF) using a meta-analysis and found that SSRIF studies employing free conversations between participants showed overall large effect sizes of retrieval-induced forgetting, which nonetheless decreased as practice effects increased. We will discuss possible mechanisms of these social memory phenomena.
