Does Successful Self Explanation Improve Accuracy?

Abstract

Participants were trained in self-explanation then took an immediate posttest. Greater success on the training was associated with higher accuracy on the test. However, that relationship was stronger for one type of question than another. This clarifies the conditions under which self-explanations are most helpful.
