Abstract

We investigated age-related differences in the effect of directed forgetting on emotional true and false memories. Directed-forgetting cues reduced children’s true recall, especially when children were in positive moods, but did not reduce adults’ true recall. In contrast, directed-forgetting cues had no effect on false recall.
