The Role of Feelings of Deservingness in Negative Life Outcomes

Abstract
We propose that feelings of deservingness may explain why individuals with low self-esteem often experience negative life outcomes. From a justice motive perspective, people with low self-worth may be prone to behaviour that results in negative life experiences because those are the outcomes they believe they deserve.
