Projected Personality and Artistic Performance in the Hip-Hop Music Industry

Abstract

In this study, we examined the relationship of commercial and critical performance of hip-hop artists with the personality traits projected by artists in their lyrics. Results indicated that overall trait levels predict both types of performance, and that deviation from overall personality from album to album predicts album performance.
