Instagram, Social Comparison, and Body Dissatisfaction: An Analysis of College Students’ Instagram Feeds

This study analyzed the content of 88 college students’ Instagram feeds, with a focus on posts that elicited social comparison. Results suggested women engaged in more appearance-related comparisons than men and that comparisons to peers were most common. Among men, regular Instagram use was associated with greater body image disturbance.
