Abstract

We explored people’s expected evaluations from others when hypothetically paired with a masculine or feminine dog. Consistent with the precarious manhood hypothesis, men paired with a feminine dog anticipated more discomfort and negative evaluations than men paired with a masculine dog. We discuss implications for people’s perceptions of companion animals.
