Abstract

Five studies examined the relationship between motivational imbalance and political activism. Results show that motivationally imbalanced participants who were told that violent behaviors are less effective than peaceful behaviors for social change had an increased support for violent behaviors. Results suggests theory-driven methods to reduce political violence and radicalization.
