Abstract

This laboratory-based study demonstrates that (1) older adults show greater sad facial expressions during a sad film clip; (2) greater sad (but not happy) facial expressions predict greater use of compensatory control strategies (e.g., support seeking); and (3) sad facial expressions mediate associations between age and compensation.
