Promoting Student Responsibility for Learning through Mastery Goal Emphasized Teaching

Abstract
Perceived responsibility for learning (PRL) and goal orientation were applied in a novel manner to further understand instructor impact on students. Results show that when instructors place PRL on students and utilize mastery goal orientation, students develop mastery orientation themselves, and thus increase their academic success. Implications for instruction discussed.
