Abstract

Older (ages 60-86) and younger adults (ages 18-39) completed a memory task, encoding emotional and neutral objects in relation to themselves or a stranger under a divided attention manipulation. Self-referencing and positive emotion benefitted both groups, while negative emotion benefitted only young adults.
