Food and Friendship: Does Communal Eating Impact Perceived Closeness?

Abstract

This study examined how the sharing of food impacts the perceptions of relationships. Participants viewed pictures of targets sharing either potato chips or markers. Among other findings, results indicated that participants perceived those who were consuming food together to have closer relationships than those who were coloring with markers together.
