Who Am I? How Life History Strategies Impact Self-Concept Consistency

Across four studies (N = 941), we find that people from unpredictable childhood backgrounds were relatively inconsistent in their self-concepts across relationships compared to those from stable backgrounds. People from unpredictable backgrounds also did not suffer decrements in relationship satisfaction due to inconsistency, suggesting reduced reliance on consistency.
