Abstract

This study examined developmental sensitivity of the anxiety-ERN (error-related negativity) relationship in children and adolescence. Anxiety symptoms related to enlarged ERN in older children and adolescents, but not younger children. Results support a hypothesis suggesting as anxious children age, they develop compensatory mechanisms to regulate anxiety’s impact on cognitive control.
