Title Brevity, Not Appeal, Is Associated with Journal Impact Factor

We examined ratings of journal article titles from low-, medium-, and high-impact journals. Twenty-eight undergraduate participants rated 64 articles from these journals. Results showed no significant differences in ratings of appeal but shorter titles were rated higher than longer titles in the low- and medium- compared to the high-impact journal.
