Seeking Gender Fair Measurement of STEM Reasoning Among Middle Grades and Secondary Students

Abstract
To examine measurement using the STEM Reasoning Abilities Assessment (SRAA) 426 middle and high school students were administered the instrument. Rasch dichotomous model analyses and diagnostics were applied, including gender differential item functioning (DIF) procedures. Gender DIF was identified in 15% of items. Revisions, measurement, and gender fairness were discussed.
