Maternal-Child Health Indicators Predict Incarceration Rates across Countries

Abstract

This research evaluated the possible relationship between maternal and child health indicators and incarceration rates across countries. Percentage of infants breastfed, percentage one year olds lacking measles immunization, adolescent birth rate, and maternal mortality rate were the strongest predictors and explained 37% of the variance in incarceration rate.
