Abstract

We tested whether subjective socioeconomic status (SES) predicts allostatic load, a multisystem index of physiological dysregulation. In a diverse sample of 1185 women, higher subjective SES predicted lower allostatic load, adjusting for income and education. Results suggest that perceptions of SES predict health in postpartum women independent of objective indicators.
