Abstract

Fans of the television show Doctor Who were surveyed about their identity as a fan, their parasocial relationships with the show's characters and the actors who play them, and their psychological and social well-being. Findings indicate that stronger fan identity predicted stronger parasocial relationships with characters and greater well-being.
