An Investigation of First-Year Seminar: Are Study-Skills Focused First-Year Seminars Ill-Timed and Misguided?

Abstract
College students struggle academically, despite the efforts currently made via first-year seminars. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate students’ study habits, after they had completed a study-skill focused first-year seminar. Results are discussed in relation to Chickering’s developmental theory and suggestions are offered based on results.
