Abstract

Deaf children and adults show central-field visual attention deficits on continuous performance tests (CPT). Auditory deprivation, language/experiential deprivation, or neurological impairment may alternatively explain these deficits. CPT data from 71 hearing and deaf adults varying in potential language/experiential deprivation and neurological impairments suggests language/experiential deprivation causes central-field visual attention deficits.
