Abstract

This study asks whether syntactic bootstrapping applies in Mandarin, a languages that lacks articles and morphological inflections. We found that, despite the apparent lack of articles words and morphological inflection, Mandarin has cues reliably predicting form classes in child-directed language input, and that these cues contribute to children’s word learning.
