Psychological Standing: Understanding Whites’ Participation in Racial Diversity Initiatives

We report a new conceptualization and measure of psychological standing, which predicts Whites’ self-report and behavioral measures of interest in diversity initiatives, over-and-above attitudes towards multiculturalism and concerns with appearing prejudiced. Whites generally exhibited lower interest compared to non-Whites, but this gap was reduced among those reporting higher psychological standing.
