Abstract

This study explores the developmental origins of selective trust by examining whether causal learning and metacognitive abilities are key mechanisms. Results indicate that 18-month-olds use metacognitive judgments to guide their social learning—infants are more willing to learn from a reliable source when uncertain about their own knowledge.
