Abstract

Participants receiving treatment for food allergies were either taught that their symptoms are a positive signal of treatment efficacy, or that symptoms are an unfortunate byproduct of treatment. Patients had less anxiety about symptoms, fewer symptoms, and better treatment adherence when symptoms were re-framed as positive signals.
