Knowledge Is Bliss: Exposure to Health Threatening Information Online Results in Decreased Intentions to Participate in Health Behaviors

Abstract
Assessed the effects of health anxiety, health optimistic bias, and experimentally manipulated exposure to web-based health threatening information on health behavioral intentions. Assessments of 268 online participants revealed that both experimentally induced and stable health anxiety are inversely associated with intent to engage in health behavior.
