Abstract
This study investigated social-category based inductive inferences in a diverse, rural sample. Relative to prior research, 5-year-olds relied more on gender, and less on ethnicity and religion, when making inductive inferences about novel individuals. These results demonstrate the impact of local cultural context on the development of social-category based reasoning.
