Abstract

We present five experiments on Polish and American samples showing that money helps people deal with existential anxiety. Exposure to money cues decreases the accessibility of death-related cognition when mortality thoughts are activated, and as a result, reduced death anxiety. This effect is stronger among people linking self-worth to finances.
