Abstract

Stigma towards mental illness negatively impacts willingness to seek therapy. A native tongue is more emotional than a foreign language. If stigma impacts action via emotions, language choice should affect willingness to recommend treatment. Findings suggest that presenting mental health information in a foreign language increases willingness to recommend treatment.
