Is Focusing Internally Necessary for Mindfulness to Work?

Abstract

Does internal focus cause mindfulness to work? In this study participants listened to either an internal technique or an external technique. Results indicated that focusing internally or externally lowered anxiety, but neither appeared to increase a state of mindfulness.
