Abstract

This study examined factors that shape 3- to 11-year-old children’s narratives about their emotional experiences, because greater elaboration in emotional descriptions may be a domain-general protective factor. Age was not associated with elaboration, but a three-way interaction among children’s affective, cognitive, and social functioning predicted elaborative detail in emotional narratives.
