Abstract

We drew on prototype theory to identify the salient characteristics of people who engage in discrimination against Blacks. Outgroup perpetrators (White, Asian, and Latino) were perceived as more discriminatory than ingroup (Black) perpetrators. However, high status perpetrators (Whites) were not perceived as more discriminatory than low status perpetrators (Latinos).
