Abstract

Using feelings-as-information theory, the effect of smells (USA (N =186): fishy vs. fresh; Mexico (N=251): locked cat vs. bleach) was assessed. Clean smells increased Trustworthiness in both samples and Mood in the U.S. where Smell and Gender interacted on Disclosure. The locked cat smell condition produced fewer errors of Scrutiny.
