Abstract

In a sample of 508 jail inmates, impulsivity was the primary symptom cluster linking BPD to pre-incarceration substance use. While unrelated to alcohol and marijuana use, other features of BPD (negative relationships and affective instability) were also related to use of opiates and cocaine, over and above impulsivity.
