Abstract

Music training reportedly enhances executive function, but the mechanisms are mostly unknown. The present study showed that musicians had advantages over non-musicians in working memory, controlled processing and planning. Among musicians, those skilled in harmony showed better planning and problem-solving, suggesting that harmony may be a mechanism for cognitive enhancement.
