Abstract
Men read about existing gender economic inequality while imagining women’s feelings (empathy), understanding women’s thoughts about inequality (perspective-taking), or remaining objective (stay-objective). Perspective taking led to a reduction in men’s estimated outgroup standards and their legitimacy appraisals. The perspective-taking effect on legitimacy appraisals was mediated by men’s estimated outgroup standards.
