Abstract

We examined the effect of self-affirmation and sexual objectification on self-esteem, self-objectification and sexist attitudes. After viewing objectified or non-objectified advertisements participants self-affirmed or not. Male and female data analyzed separately revealed that males’ were more likely to self-objectify, and report lower self esteem after viewing sexually objectifying photos.
