Abstract

We examined within-person associations between everyday spoken language and state positive and negative emotions (N = 176, 1,530 observations). Our findings call into question the validity of LIWC emotion dictionaries as measures of actual emotion experience, but demonstrate the potential for generating hypotheses from the open-ended words of daily life.
